Brian Johnson is EVP of Growth and Expansion at LitLife. Brian is responsible for working with key stakeholders to increase LitLife’s visibility in schools and districts, ensuring we practice culturally relevant management and responsive teaching, and on-boarding new staff members to the culture and protocols of LitLife.
Before joining the LitLife team, Brian was the Director of Alumni Teacher Leadership at Teach For America. He oversaw a portfolio of 1500 teachers and school leaders to ensure their retention, increase satisfaction at their respective schools, and build their leadership skills through curriculum.
Brian Johnson has serviced charter and district schools in the Harlem area since 2006. He began his teaching career as a Teach For America corps member where he taught high school mathematics. He later joined KIPP: Infinity Charter school as a founding 8th grade teacher, facilitator of pedagogy, and literacy specialist.
During his time teaching, he was selected for several prestigious teaching awards and accolades. Brian was a semi-finalist for the U.S. Department of Education Classroom Teaching Ambassador Fellowship. He has won three Sontag Prizes in Urban Education where he studied educational pedagogy at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and taught at-risk students in Boston. Brian has been featured in articles from EngageNY and the University of Kentucky for his tireless work to end the educational gap.
As a consummate learner and researcher, Brian received his Master’s Degree in Education from Pace University and his Special Education certification from St. Rose College.
